Our beloved stairs...

The views are awesome from every room, but you need to do our 2 minute Bluebottle workout to earn your reward!!

Bluebottle Guesthouse is not your average suburban B&B. We are on the mountainside nestled amongst indigenous fauna and flora overlooking a beautiful blue sea.

You can only access our guesthouse by a long flight of stairs (131 to be exact!) They are in groups of around 5 to 10 stairs separated by landings and are easily managed by anyone of average fitness. Our oldest guest was 92 years old! It is unusual access, but creates a peaceful calm atmosphere away from the noise of traffic and busy, buzzing suburban life.

Taryn is a designer and has used her talent to design a mosaic for the stairs that encompasses all the natural beauty of Muizenberg. The theme starts at the ocean floor, rising up through the waves, then shoreline, onto the estuary and vlei, and then the yet to be installed designs of the mountain beauty and finally the day and night time skies.

Andrew is a butterfly expert and over the last 15 years we have landscaped the stairs with water-wise local plants to attract butterflies and birds. The stairs are also frequented by several animals including; porcupines, chameleons, tortoises, frogs, toads and the occasional baboon.

Bluebottle Guesthouse is in the perfect place for runners with an awesome 8km circular route to Kalk Bay Harbour and back.

We offer on-street parking that has monitored cameras and an overnight security guard on foot patrol.

We are always here to assist with carrying luggage, so please let us know if we can help you .
